Katie O'Halloran

Katie is a Dublin-based stage and screen director, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She works across multiple mediums in Ireland and internationally.

Her work celebrates theatricality, examines the materiality and effects of borders and confines, and prioritises a thorough probing of the text. She fuses her love of analysing language with detailed vocal and physical work, as she firmly believes that “actors write with their bodies”.

In 2022, Katie was the recipient of the Marie Mullen Bursary with Druid Theatre. In 2023, she returned to Druid as assistant director to Garry Hynes for their award-winning DruidO’Casey production. Katie was also selected as a Studio Director with the Irish National Opera and worked with the company throughout their 20222023 season.

As a writer, she was awarded the Pavilion Studio Residency to develop her plays Fionúir, Smile & Be a Villain and Count of Three.

In 2024, she was selected alongside choreographer Douglas Reddan, to develop a dance-theatre piece, Home House, as part of Backstage Longford’s Activate Residency.

With a background in storytelling through dance and music, Katie has directed music videos for The X Collective, Molly Donnery and Ben Bix, as well as the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Eleri Ward in New York City.

In 2021, she directed a reforestation documentary, What You Can, featuring Irish actors Andrew Scott and Alex Murphy.

Katie holds a BFA (Hons) in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory (concentrations in Directing, Acting, Songwriting) and an MFA (Distinction) in Directing from The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art.
