Lorna Fitzsimons is a Dublin-based writer, director, and photographer known for telling stories that connect, challenge, and entertain.
Her recent short film Remote Strutting, funded by Árdán/RTÉ, celebrates accessibility with deaf actors, premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh, earning an Honourable Mention at Louth Film Festival, winning Best Director at the European Cinematographer Awards, and securing distribution with Network TV Ireland.
Also gaining festival traction is #bog, which Lorna directed and co-wrote as part of the Engine Shorts scheme. It premiered at Foyle Film Festival, received an Honourable Mention at Louth, and earned her a Best Director shortlist at the Shark Awards.
Lorna’s work blends sharp storytelling with community focus. Dance Till Dán, a dance and poetry film with Dublin 8’s F2 Centre, was sponsored by TikTok and St. Patrick’s Festival.
Her drama short Whale, addressing domestic violence, is in feature development with Wildfire Films following Screen Ireland Screenplay Development support. Screen Ireland also backed her participation at Script Circle in Berlin with this screenplay.
Starting at Dublin’s renowned The Factory Actors Studio, Lorna has always championed layered, character-driven stories. Her indie film Meeting on the Stairs premiered at Galway Film Fleadh and screened internationally, while co-directed student feature Poison Pen (available on Amazon Prime) gave her an early taste of the festival circuit.
Lorna has shadow-directed action sequences for Sherlock and Daughter and a block of TV drama Red Rock. She is currently developing several projects: Locked and Loaded, a futuristic short subverting gender dynamics that won the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival’s live script reading competition; Watch Over Me, a drama exploring love and loneliness beyond the grave; and I’m Ciara, a feature about the complex bond between identical twins — something she knows firsthand — is in development with Western Front Studios after her time at Cine Qua Non Screenwriting Lab in Mexico, with plans to attend Stowe Story Lab in Vermont.
