Lorna Fitzsimons

Lorna Fitzsi­mons is a Dublin-​based writer, direc­tor, and pho­tog­ra­pher known for telling sto­ries that con­nect, chal­lenge, and entertain.

Her recent short film Remote Strut­ting, funded by Árdán/​RTÉ, cel­e­brates acces­si­bil­ity with deaf actors, pre­mier­ing at the Gal­way Film Fleadh, earn­ing an Hon­ourable Men­tion at Louth Film Fes­ti­val, win­ning Best Direc­tor at the Euro­pean Cin­e­matog­ra­pher Awards, and secur­ing dis­tri­b­u­tion with Net­work TV Ireland.

Also gain­ing fes­ti­val trac­tion is #bog, which Lorna directed and co-​wrote as part of the Engine Shorts scheme. It pre­miered at Foyle Film Fes­ti­val, received an Hon­ourable Men­tion at Louth, and earned her a Best Direc­tor short­list at the Shark Awards.

Lorna’s work blends sharp sto­ry­telling with com­mu­nity focus. Dance Till Dán, a dance and poetry film with Dublin 8’s F2 Cen­tre, was spon­sored by Tik­Tok and St. Patrick’s Festival.

Her drama short Whale, address­ing domes­tic vio­lence, is in fea­ture devel­op­ment with Wild­fire Films fol­low­ing Screen Ire­land Screen­play Devel­op­ment sup­port. Screen Ire­land also backed her par­tic­i­pa­tion at Script Cir­cle in Berlin with this screenplay.

Start­ing at Dublin’s renowned The Fac­tory Actors Stu­dio, Lorna has always cham­pi­oned lay­ered, character-​driven sto­ries. Her indie film Meet­ing on the Stairs pre­miered at Gal­way Film Fleadh and screened inter­na­tion­ally, while co-​directed stu­dent fea­ture Poi­son Pen (avail­able on Ama­zon Prime) gave her an early taste of the fes­ti­val circuit.

Lorna has shadow-​directed action sequences for Sher­lock and Daugh­ter and a block of TV drama Red Rock. She is cur­rently devel­op­ing sev­eral projects: Locked and Loaded, a futur­is­tic short sub­vert­ing gen­der dynam­ics that won the Dublin Inter­na­tional Com­edy Film Festival’s live script read­ing com­pe­ti­tion; Watch Over Me, a drama explor­ing love and lone­li­ness beyond the grave; and I’m Ciara, a fea­ture about the com­plex bond between iden­ti­cal twins — some­thing she knows first­hand — is in devel­op­ment with West­ern Front Stu­dios after her time at Cine Qua Non Screen­writ­ing Lab in Mex­ico, with plans to attend Stowe Story Lab in Vermont.
